July 11th, 2015

The Indiana Brews' Cup  awards dinner.  6 entries this year.  Peter Purcival Paterson's Popcorn Pilsner (entered in both the cream ale & standard lager categories), Fluster Cluck Bock Bock Bock, Where the Helles Maibock, Dr. Pavlov's Salivator & Marzen Dotes & Dozy Dotes.  The Fluster Cluck and Salivator both made it to the mini-Best of Show but did not place.

The HCHC bar was once again the hit if the evening, putting the FBI's attempt to shame.

The Indiana Brews' Cup  awards dinner.  4 entries this year.  Oliver's Oatmeal Stout,  Where the Helles Maibock (entered as a Munich Dunkel due to its dark color), Dr. Pavlov's Salivator & Marzen Dotes & Dozy Dotes, which got a 2nd place. 

The HCHC bar was once again the hit if the evening when compared to all the other club's jockey boxes.

The Indiana Brews' Cup  awards dinner.  7 entries this year, but no awards.  RIP Stout,  Fluster Cluck Bock Bock Bock,  Where the Helles Maibock, Thistle Dew, Abbey Normal, Harry Porter & Marzen Dotes & Dozy Dotes, which made it to the second round "mini Best of Show" judging. 

The HCHC bar was once again the hit if the evening when compared to all the other club's jockey boxes.  All 7 kegs were emptied.

The HCHC participated in the Ales for Tails for the 3rd year.  The club bar made its debut with the new 3 tower set-up.  6 beers on tap.  4 single hopped pale ales from the Half Moon Big Brew, The Bourbon Barrel Stout & a soured Barleywine.

The Howard County Homebrew Club participated in the Taste of Kokomo.  Though no beers from the Tin Whisker were on tap, I was one of the bartenders of the club bar.  A role that will be repeated in one week at KokoPalooza.

Ales for Tails has invited the Howard County Homebrew back to serve up some of their fine homebrews.  This year we have two versions of the Half Moon Big Brew ESB, a "soured" version of last year's Big Brew Belgian Blonde, a Celebration clone project and an Oatmeal Stout.

Received the results of this year's AHA National Homebrew Competition.  Only entered 2 beers this year.  Dr. Pavlov's Salivator Doppelbock & Where the Helles Maibock.  This is my first competition that didn't garner any ribbons.

The Howard County Homebrew Club is invited to pour their homebrews at the inaugural Kokofest.  They set up alongside the Lafayette Brewpub, Half Moon & Upland Brewery.  The club bar puts the jockey boxes of the breweries to shame.  The endless stream of people keep Larry & Tom busy pouring the 4oz glasses of Tom's double IPA, the HCHC's Bourbon Barrel Stout & Belgian Blonde, Mike & Jason's American Wheat and Larry's Susie's Sweet Stout.  About 20 to 25 gallons of beer was poured and by many comments given that night, we had the best beer of the evening.

The Indiana Brewer's Cup for 2010 brought another 1st place ribbon.  This one for an Oktoberfest beer called Marzen Dotes and Dozy Dotes.

Susie's Sweet Stout is tapped at the Half Moon.  It is paired up with Galumkis & a piece of Chocolate Porter Cake.  At best count, 24 friends attended for the tapping.

First round winners are announced in the National Homebrew Competition.  Dr. Pavlov's Salivator Doppelbock wins the Blue Ribbon in the Great Lakes Region.  It will now move on the the national finals.

Jon at the Half Moon said he will be putting Larry to work brewing Susie's Sweet Stout in January that should be ready to tap in February.

Nov.  2009

The Nov/Dec issue of Zymurgy magazine came out listing all the Best of Show winners in the country for the summer and the number of entries in each competition.  It turns out that the Indiana Brewer's Cup is the largest homebrew competition in the country!  Susie's Sweet Stout took BoS out of 732 entries.

Oct. 17th, 2009

The tapping party at the Broadripple Brewpub for Susie's Sweet Stout brought out a record number of people the BRBP had ever had for the tapping of the Best of Show!  As best as we could count, 48 people came from as far away as Wisconsin to help Larry & Susie celebrate the tapping of Susie's Sweet Stout.  The stout brewed by Larry & Kevin turned out fantastic, especially when served from the beer engine at the brewpub.

Larry wins Best of Show at the Indiana Brewer's Cup for his Susie's Sweet Stout.  It was the only one of the 8 beers entered this year to receive an award.
